FEALAC Day 2021: FUDY Webinar
To encourage student mobility under FEALAC’s umbrella, Brunei Darussalam through Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), is hosting a webinar on the FEALAC University Discovery Year (FUDY) Programme, an ongoing project under the STIEWG, on Tuesday, 21 September 2021, 8am to 10am (GMT+8) (Brunei Time) corresponding with Monday 20 September 2021, 9pm to 11pm (GMT-3) (Latin American Time). The aim is, firstly, to increase the participation of university students from Latin America to participate in the programme and, secondly, with the accessibility of this information, explore ways to expand this project to include academic staff mobility; joint/ dual/ double degree programmes; joint supervision of master’s and PhD programmes as well as joint collaborative research, COIL (Collaborative Online International Learning) and micro credential programmes with universities in Latin America. The International Cooperation Group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB), one of the current partners of UBD under the FUDY programme will also be invited to share their experience and provide feedback on the project.

The FEALAC University Discovery Year (FUDY) Programme welcomes semester exchange and short-term exchange students from FEALAC member country universities to apply to University Brunei Darussalam (UBD) to enrol in its non-graduating ptrogrammes. In addition to semester exchanges under FUDY, UBD welcomes FEALAC member university students to join our short- term summer programme known as the Global Discovery Programme (GDP) which runs every year in June/July/August. The programme is creit bearing and is designed to offer international students an opportunity to experience student-life in this culture-rich kingdom, in an academic setting which is stimulating, challenging and progressive. ●Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) is pleased to add a new component under FUDY for 2017/2018 (August 2017 to July 2018) - we welcome Latin American university students to join us for our 4-week credit bearing Global Discovery Programme (GDP), in addition to our regular semester exchange. Dates and e-flyer attached to this form. ●The FEALAC University Discovery Year (FUDY) is an initiative by Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) offering waived tuition fees for students from universities in Latin America to join UBD on exchange for either semester exchange (up to 2 semester or 1 academic year) or for short-term exchange (our four-week summer Global Discovery Programme). 1.Semester Exchange - This runs for two semesters each academic year, August to December and January to May. Tuition fees will be waived but students have to pay for their own return airfare, health and travel insurance and living expenses such as accommodation, meals and transport while in UBD. 2.Global Discovery Programme (GDP) - This is a short-term (4 weeks) summer programme which is run three times a year - February, July, August. It offers students a chance to enroll in UBD’s flagship GDP Discover Brunei Course which is an exciting 4-week credit-bearing summer programme combining intellectually stimulating lectures and workshops by renowned academics in their fields with excursions and experiential learning as well as cultural and immersion activities centered around a Discover Brunei theme. Tuition fees of USD1,000 per student will be waived under FUDY. Students only have to pay the programme fee of USD1,500 per student covering four weeks of on-campus accommodation, 3 meals a day, airport transfer, local transport costs, excursion to neighbouring Malaysia and visa fee. Excludes return airplane ticket and compulsory travel and health insurance.

The main purpose of FUDY is to promote people-to-people connectivity amongst FEALAC member countries through student mobility program. FUDY will operate on a reciprocal basis in promoting student mobility from UBD and universities in East Asia and Latin America. The proposed duration of the Project is one semester (14 weeks). FUDY’s participants will undertake the following activities: i. Attend regular classes/ lectures; ii. Complete all required assessments; iii. Undergo study trips relevant to their studies; iv. Experience cultural activities; v. Visits to places of interests in Brunei Darussalam; vi. Possible brief internship stints vii. Possibly undertaking research project Host university may administer credit-bearing summer program to encourage the active exchanges of students in order to promote balanced mobility. Upon completion of FUDY, students’ credit are expected to be transferred back using mutually-agreed credit transfer system: Other expected outcome of this activities are I. i. Mutual appreciation of culture and tradition II. ii. Enhancement of soft-skills as global citizens
