FEALAC SIDE EVENT ON “MONGOLIA’S CRITICAL MINERAL VALUE CHAINS: FROM RESOURCES TO VALUE ADDITION” HELD DURING MINING WEEK–2026

The global energy transition is driving unprecedented demand for critical minerals. For Mongolia, this presents a strategic opportunity to move beyond mineral extraction towards value addition, processing, downstream industries and sustainable industrial development. Mongolia’s critical mineral potential can contribute to economic diversification and industrialization, supported by appropriate policies, infrastructure, technology, investment and international partnerships. The proposed side event will bring together government, industry, investors, technology providers and international partners to examine opportunities across Mongolia’s critical mineral value chains and identify practical pathways to greater domestic value creation. International cooperation will be an important dimension of the discussion. The FEALAC-wide project “Interregional Cooperation on Critical Mineral Value Chains for Energy Transition” offers a practical example of cooperation between resource-rich and industrial economies. Mongolia is one of six target countries under the project, alongside Thailand, Malaysia, Brazil, Chile and Colombia.

Cultural Exchange Program

The invitee will stay in Mongolia approximately 7 days (July, 8-14). MFA will organize excursions to tourist places outside of Ulaanbaatar as an official part of this program to discover history, culture and nomadic life in Mongolia. The Public Diplomacy and Cultural Cooperation Department of the MFA will organize Round Table Meeting between journalists and the Mongolian Government officials. The event is aimed to give foreign journalists broad view on the Mongolian history and culture, as well as modern foreign policy. The Confederation of the Mongolian journalists will organize Joint Forum of Journalists, with the aim to provide an opportunity for exchanging experiences and discussing ways to share information between journalists from the two regions. The journalists will attend different activities of the NAADAM festival
