II. Executive Summary
| Project Purposes | At the 9th Foreign Ministers' Meeting in the Dominican Republic, greater visibility for FEALAC was identified as a key need, as stated in the Declaration on "Strengthening the Institutional Framework of FEALAC". In response, the Republic of Korea and the Cyber Secretariat developed a Public Relations Program aimed at increasing FEALAC's visibility in Korea. These efforts build on the FEALAC Supporters Program that was launched in 2019 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of FEALAC. Comprised mainly of undergraduate and graduate students interested in FEALAC and the two regions, East Asia and Latin America, the FEALAC Supporters have organized various public relations events to introduce FEALAC to the Korean public. Korea aims to enhance FEALAC's visibility in the country and inform a wider audience about FEALAC's significance for Korea's foreign policy by actively using online platforms. To achieve this goal, Korea and the Cyber Secretariat have established popular social media accounts, such as a blog channel, Instagram, and YouTube, as part of the FEALAC Supporters Program. |

| Activity Description | The Supporters have made significant contributions by connecting and communicating with the public in various ways, providing valuable information on FEALAC. Over the course of four years, they have posted over 800 informative articles and created more than 60 YouTube videos about FEALAC and regional issues, generating outstanding reinforcement in the promotion of FEALAC Youth projects of the CYGS Working Group(Culture, Youth, Gender and Sports). The activities and roles of the FEALAC Supporters are as follows: ▶ Covering the international and public events organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea and FEALAC Cyber Secretariat ▶ On-and off-line activities to promote the visibility of FEALAC ▶ Seminars on international relations, multilateral organizations and regional studies ▶ Creating social media contents for reciprocal cultural exchanges as the FEALAC Supporters |
| Outcomes | In July 2024, the name ‘FEALAC Supporters’ was changed to ‘FEALAC Young Leaders,’ reflecting its growing visibility since its establishment in 2019. This year, marking the 25th anniversary of FEALAC, the FEALAC Young Leaders completed a wide range of activities to raise public awareness of FEALAC. On November 8, they held a ‘Completion Ceremony’ at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea in Seoul. The activities they participated in and implemented included the following: Official Events 1. Launching Ceremony (May 2) 2. FEALAC 25th Anniversary Exhibition (May 14-17) 3. FEALAC SPCSDCC Capacity-Building and International Relations Workshop (July 23) 4. FEALAC Youth Language and Cultural Exchange Program (July 4-August 31) 5. Voices of Young FEALAC: Ideas for a Better SPCSDCC Connection (September 27) 6. FEALAC Young Leaders Video Contest (July 23-October 31) Official Activities 1. Covering FEALAC and Ministry of Foreign Affairs events: o Youth Expansion into the Latin America Forum (May 31) o Korea-LAC Future Cooperation Forum (June 10) 2. Writing articles and creating visual content (e.g., card news) on FEALAC and its member countries 3. Producing videos on FEALAC and Young Leaders’ activities Collaboration Activities 1. Covering the special lecture ‘Pablo Neruda’s Life’ held by the Chilean Embassy in Korea (June 27) 2. Invited visit to the Chilean Embassy in Korea (September 24) |
| Next Steps | The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Korea and the FEALAC Cyber Secretariat will continuously explore ways to develop Young Leaders as the next generation of FEALAC. In this regard, the 7th FEALAC Young Leaders Programme will continue in 2025. The program will feature diverse workshops, leadership training sessions, and opportunities for participants to propose collaborative projects aimed at addressing regional and global challenges. |
