Project Purpose & Description
Buakaew International Roundtable was first proposed by Thailand at FEALAC FMM II in Manila in January 2004 and o rganised annually since 2005. This program of study visits has so far welcomed representatives from various FEALAC member countries. It aims to strengthen relationships and to establish development and technical cooperation between officials of Thailand and Latin American countries with an emphasis on economy, sustainable development, community development, tourism and agriculture. This initiative was also designed to introduce Thailand???experiences and best practices in development which can be applied to other countries.
Activity Description & Outcome
Buakaew International Roundtable 2011 took place during 29 September ??5 October 2011 under the title: ??턷fficiency Economy, Eco-tourism and Management Programme??with 22 participants from 13 FEALAC members. The activities included field trips to various royal environmental research and development projects, community-based tourism villages and the National Elephant Institute. Throughout the Programme, the participants have better understandings of alternative development in Thailand, in particular, the community-based tourism which encourages communities to apply Sufficiency Economy concept as a way to maintain and foster the communities??healthy natural and social environments, as well as, their self-reliance. In addition, the Programme offered a better networking among the participants, and public and private sectors in Thailand.
